Veterans' Administration Hospital Cookie Cart Initiative

Isaac Shelby Chapter Veterans Support

For several years, the Isaac Shelby Chapter has supported Veterans through several programs at the Memphis VA Medical Center.

Beverage Cart

The Chapter is scheduled the first Friday of each month to run the beverage cart in the lobby of the Bed Tower.  Our members hand out coffee, lemonade and cookies to Veterans and their families. We are there from 8:00am to 10:30am.

Parade of Rooms

Each year in early December, the Veterans who are in the VAMC receive a bag of personal items. Our Chapter, along with many other Veteran support organizations, provide items for the 200 bags. The chapter accumulates funds during the year and we then buy an item for each of the bags.

Holiday Food Basket

Each year in early December, Veterans families who are in need, receive a bag of food. Our Chapter, along with many other Veteran support organizations, provide items for the 300 bags. The chapter accumulates funds during the year and we then buy one of more items for each of the bags.

Individual Volunteers

The Memphis VAMC has a number of activities/jobs for which Veteran support organizations provide volunteers. The level of commitment is on an individual basis.  Some people are there every week and some only once a month.  Activities include driving a van to pick up Veterans at their homes and take them to the VAMC or driving the cart in the parking lots to get people from their cars to the building. Others may work the book carts throughout the VAMC or help in the volunteer office. For these positions, you must be fully COVID compliant, get a badge and be fingerprinted.

Individual Donations

A member can make either monetary or in-kind donations to the VAMC.  The in-kind can include books, magazines, personal care items, clothing and some electronics.
